Turn the idle speed screw on the primaries in about 2-3 turns after it makes contact with the linkage and starts opening the primary throttle blades. ps. I've been having problems with my sniper efi just shutting off. However, I have never found that to be the case. I believe that you have this problem solved now with your new inline filter/regulator. These problems will go away when you do that. So, this is what it takes to put a Sniper on a small-block Ford. I can have it working fine (5% to 10% at target idle at operating temp.) But get that fuel system fixed before going any further. You could go either way.. I go into much more detail about that in this article on startup tuning. Turning it off and back on would reset it, and then it would work as advertised for a while. One of the best Ive seen so far. If more info is needed just ask. Since the load is more of a wave that increases the most initially and then decreases again, the ECU is doing really well to get the idle under control in only two or three over/under shots as you describe. You don't mention if you have your Sniper ECU controlling timing. EFI System Pro had everything I needed for my EFI upgrade. shut truck off. Every time though I can turn the car off and restart and it settles at 850 with IAC 2-4.The thing that has me puzzled is how the with the only difference in condition of the car being the restart, the idle is "fixed"Any clues on where to look next please let me know. You may have to register before you can post: click the register link above to proceed. Or, at least, it should. Definitely not 90. Hey Tommy, we've got at least one thing in common. And, while that is happening, make a note of the temperature before you engage the starter, and then the rpm when it starts. The Idle Parked Position is set on a temperature-based graph like the Idle Speed Curve. If it is already adding fuel, it may be worth expanding this into the area where the tip-in is occuring (and where there is no learning occuring. After it starts it idles around my 960rpm setting + or - 100rpm. They also recommended that their ground be spliced into the Sniper ground as close to the Sniper as possible. I have replaced the IAC motor and the problem remains. An under-sized filter will allow part- throttle operation but fuel pressure will drop at WOT and run very lean - perhaps surge under power. Idle quality is great, RPM is good, sometimes IAC is now between 2 and 5 exactly where it should be. Given the circumstances I would say that it is either the IAC motor itself or RFI but you seem to have ruled both of those out. When the idle speed screw is turned all the way out there should be just enough room between the bore and the blade to catch your fingernail. That initial rev is going to be determined by your IAC Park Position. Installed sniper on 65 galaxie. Be sure to re-enable it once you get your idle tuned. The RPM would increase for no reason. Or is there something else I should Then do it just a bit faster--just enough for it to bog a bit. Duty Cycle% = 3 Technically it is a warranty-voiding maneuver so proceed at your own risk. I have seen this become blocked with debris / dirt in the fuel system and cause a high fuel pressure condition . You want to ensure that nothing is hung up in there. The only thing that I can think of that would cause the fuel pressure to spike when the motor starts is the increased fuel flow at the higher alternator voltage (jumping from 12.0 to 13.5 volts or so.) ?I never had my Carb Cold start RPM any higher then 1600 RPM.THANK YOU. You will have to do this until the TPS stays at 0% when the throttle is closed. Switch power to the Sniper on and crank the engine. This is very disappointing as people love to hear the motor while the hood is open. Thanks Jon. Clearly, something is changing. At 0% it shouldn't be sucking any air through that port, correct? The jack-rabbit start can usually be minimized by adjusting the throttle linkage. That could be a problem with the TPS or it could be some sort of throttle linkage issue. Note that sometimes you can get into a back-and-forth situation. Comp. It is easily solved by installing a four-hole gasket or four-hole spacer (depending on your hood clearance issues.) Common killers: No filter in front of the pump, reverse wiring, driving with PWM voltage, running at dead-head pressure.Since it sounds like your pressure is right, and since the Holley system doesn't provide a PWM voltage, that pretty much rules out everything but the lack of a filter. I installed the Sniper on my 1978 Ford F-100 with a small block WIthout knowing quite a bit more it will be more than challenging for you to identify the problem and solve it.Fortunately, Holley provides their amazing Sniper Software. You can drop it down and you will find it will behave more like you expect. However, I always preach to never touch any of the controls on the handheld until you have a couple hundred miles on the engine in a range of driving situations. There are six different acceleration enrichment tables that you can tweak and that may be the way to go. Then you can take a close look at the IAC and see if it is opening. Good afternoon Chris, thanks for taking the time to help all of these folks that didn't purchase from you- myself included! The issue I seem to be having is at idle in both park/neutral and drive. I very pleased with the performance, it is a huge improvement from the 800CFM carb I had on this motor. Hello Now, 1% on the TPS isn't a problem, but when it goes to 2% (which is inevitable if you have RFI moving it to 1%) then the IAC is going to go to it's hold position (30% by default) and the engine is going to rev up. I called support line he said he would have to look into it and call back. Please let us know how this works out for you! Ive played with the timing on this thing multiple times.Car was fullly restored last year. It is probably that your RPM above the maximum point at which ramp-down can occur. Enjoy your Sniper! The symptoms I had was a low cold start idle and going lean coming to a stop. Price Point: $, Advanced throttle body injection systems capable of transmission control and more. Another suggestion is to add an extra turn to the spring built into the linkage to increase the closing force on the throttle shaft. I would gladly engage with you to solve this but ultimately you are going to need to go through whomever you purchased the system if a warranty return is in order. First, recognize that the amount below your target where you set the hard idle will be different on different engines. The Sniper even has a feature that allows it to use the idle timing to control the idle speed. I'm also having a high idle problem but its different. have the system learn the higher speeds? I recently detached the TP sensor from the side of the sniper to physically move it and it still would struggle to get to 0%. Also if I give it a Earl's Mechanical Fuel Pressure GaugeI could use that for a quick troubleshooting for 1/3rd the cost of the Holley one. If you look down and your TPS is 2% then either your throttle is stuck slightly open (which itself will cause the idle-up) or RFI riding on the TPS signal has caused the ECU to see the throttle as open and, as a result, open the IAC to the hold position.
